About Septabeat

Sam Gardner, known professionally as Septabeat, is an accomplished musician who graduated with a first-class honours degree in Jazz from Leeds College of Music in 2011. He has since carved a successful path as a freelance composer, producer, and drummer.

With a diverse portfolio, Sam has composed and produced music for various purposes, ranging from brand advertising to films and video games. His prolific composition has resulted in many original releases across multiple styles.

Leading the Samadhi Quintet, Sam released and toured his debut album, ‘The Dance of Venus,’ in 2015 under the F-IRE Label. This album was met with acclaim, described as ‘accomplished and richly inventive’ by London Jazz News and later reissued by Jazz Re:Freshed. It received considerable airplay on national radio stations, including BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 3.

As Septabeat, Sam’s work in drum & bass stands out with a unique fusion of live drumming, sequencing, and electronic effects. His 2020 EP, ‘The Sundance,’ was hailed as ‘a dose of liquid gold to heal your soul’ by Rave Report. Septabeat’s collaborations with vocalists like Syren Rivers have also received special recognition, bringing freshness to a genre often dominated by DJs.

An international performer, Septabeat has played alongside some of the UK’s best Drum & Bass artists and top acts in UK Live Electronic music, such as Gentleman’s Dub Club and Submotion Orchestra. His performances have graced prestigious venues like the Albert Hall and events like the London Jazz Festival.

Sam’s skills extend to collaborations with prominent UK jazz artists like Ashley Henry and Devils of Moko, and his live performances have been featured in high-profile settings, including Ronnie Scott’s International Piano Trio Festival.

Besides his performance and composition, Sam is an active music educator, contributing to schools, charities, and leading workshops and masterclasses for students of varying ages. He currently serves as a lecturer of jazz drums at Leeds University.
